Elk Horn was platted in 1901, and incorporated as a town in 1910. Elk Horn is a city in Shelby County, Iowa, United States. The population was 662 at the 2010 census. Elk Horn is known as a center of Danish ethnicity and is home to the Museum of Danish America.
The city took its name from Elk Horn Creek.
